Driftwood scenes like this often look best in the months following larger north-shore swells (roughly late fall through spring), when surf and storms tend to rearrange the shoreline and deposit fresh wood. Summer typically brings calmer water and clearer, lighter-toned scenes; winter can deliver more dramatic surf but may limit safe beach access depending on conditions and tides.

This is a classic sandy beach setup—plan around tide so you can work near the waterline without waves creeping into your foreground, and watch for sneaker waves and shifting driftwood.
