How to Get This Shot
Seasonality
Day geckos can be spotted year-round in warm coastal areas like Poʻipū, often around buildings and gardens where insects are plentiful.
For the most active sightings, aim for sunny mornings when they’re warming up and hunting. Windy or rainy stretches can make them harder to find and keep still.
Photo Tips
- Tap to focus on the gecko’s eye; slide exposure down slightly to protect highlights on the white wall
- Use 2×/3× telephoto (or step back and zoom) to avoid casting a shadow and to keep the gecko calm
- Shoot in burst mode to catch brief pauses when it stops moving
- Keep the wall edge as a strong vertical line; leave negative space for a clean, modern composition
- Try Portrait mode only if the edge separation looks clean; otherwise use normal mode for sharper scales
Logistics & Safety
This is a “found subject” shot common around Poʻipū resorts, condos, and garden walls—walk slowly, scan sunny exterior walls and railings, and keep a respectful distance so the gecko doesn’t dart away. Avoid blocking its escape route and don’t touch or handle wildlife.
