Poʻipū Rocky Shore

Late spring through early fall often brings calmer ocean conditions and clearer water, making the shoreline colors and reef tones easier to photograph. Trade winds can still be strong, but skies are frequently bright with high, broken clouds. Winter (roughly Nov–Mar) can deliver bigger surf and more dramatic wave action along south-facing shores during south swells, but conditions vary and storms can bring fast-changing light. Prioritize safety and keep distance from wet rocks during high surf.

- Tap to expose for the bright water, then slightly lower exposure to keep wave detail - Use 0.5x/ultra-wide to emphasize the foreground greenery leading into the shoreline - Hold the horizon level; enable the grid and place the horizon on the upper third for more texture in the foreground - Try Live/Action mode (or burst) to catch a clean wave break without motion blur - Wipe the lens—sea spray and humidity can soften contrast quickly

Poʻipū Beach area is easy to access with nearby parking and facilities, but the lava-rock shoreline can be uneven and slippery—especially with spray. Stay well back from wave-washed rocks, keep an eye on sets, and avoid stepping on fragile coastal vegetation.
