Sunsets work year-round on Kauaʻi’s south shore, but late spring through early fall often brings calmer seas and clearer horizons for cleaner reflections and richer color. In winter, expect bigger surf and more dramatic clouds; you may get spectacular sky texture, but haze, showers, and wind can change conditions quickly—arrive early and be flexible with composition.

- Tap and hold on the brightest sky near the sun to lock exposure, then slide exposure down slightly to preserve sunset color - Use the palm trunks as a frame; keep the horizon level and place it on the lower third for a bigger sky - Try HDR, but avoid overdoing it—watch for halos around the palm edges - Shoot a few seconds after the sun touches the horizon for the best color gradient - Wipe the lens (salt spray and humidity soften contrast fast)

This is a low-effort coastal viewpoint along Kauaʻi’s south shore near Poʻipū, best visited 20–40 minutes before sunset to find a clean foreground and align the palms around the sun. Be mindful of slippery rocks on the reef edge, occasional high sets, and respect any resort landscaping boundaries while shooting.
