How to Get This Shot

Seasonality
Late spring through early fall often brings calmer mornings/evenings and clearer skies, which helps the tidepools reflect color and keeps spray haze down. Winter can deliver more dramatic cloud texture and color, but higher surf can cover tidepools and make the rock shelf slick or unsafe—great for wave energy shots if you keep a safe distance.
Photo Tips
- Get low to the tidepools so reflections fill the foreground and lead the eye to the horizon - Tap and hold to AE/AF lock on the bright sky, then slightly lower exposure to keep sunset color - Use 0.5x (ultra-wide) carefully: keep the horizon level and avoid stretching palms at the edges - Try a pano starting from the palms toward the open water to emphasize the sweep of shoreline - Wipe the lens often—salt mist and humidity soften contrast quickly
Logistics & Safety
Arrive 30–45 minutes before sunrise and time your foreground around low tide for the best reflective pools; the rock shelf can be very slippery and waves can surge unexpectedly, so keep distance from the waterline and watch sets. Parking is typically along nearby resort/road access; go early for easier spots and less foot traffic.
